The Porsche 918: A super sports car with every fibre of its being

This trilogy on the Porsche 918 Spyder is like the car itself – passionate, focused, spectacular. The total of three motors in this super sports car – which is still the only production vehicle to have driven the Nürburgring Nordschleife in less than seven minutes – represent a whole new dimension of driving. Similarly, the three corresponding books on this high-tech vehicle deliver a whole new reading experience. There is the “picture book” filled with opulent images from all the development phases of the 918 Spyder; the “story book” that tells the thrilling tale of this car, which marks one of the decisive turning points in Porsche history; and, finally, there is the “fact book” with all the relevant facts and figures on the 918 Spyder.

The unique imagery of the “Coffee table book” comes from Munich-based photographer and designer Stefan Bogner. Known for his distinctive photography, already published by Delius Klasing Verlag in the book “Escapes” and the magazine series “Curves”, Bogner also finds a drive in the visual anthems of the Porsche 918 Spyder that lends his images an inimitable quality.

The “Story book” comes from the keyboard of journalist Jürgen Pander from Hamburg. The narrative takes the reader on a journey behind the otherwise strictly closed doors of the Porsche Development Centre in Weissach and onto an array of race tracks and proving grounds around the world. It includes the words of key figures from Porsche’s sports car development team, such as engineers Gernot Döllner and Frank Steffen Walliser, Head of Design Michael Mauer and, of course, rally legend and Porsche handling expert Walter Röhrl, who was also involved in the development of the 918 Spyder.

In the “Fact book”, expert Klaus-Achim Peitzmeier has collated all the relevant facts, figures and graphics associated with this stroke of technical genius called the 918 Spyder – compellingly written, yet compact and concise in its presentation.

• Opulent photography; images packed with power, fascination and aesthetic beauty
• Unusual perspectives – on racing circuits and in the 918 Spyder production facility
• Inside informationen Porsche vehicle development in Weissach
• The exciting story of a car that was created in a “three-year long high-wire act”
• Documentation of the unique hybrid technology with a combined output of 887 hp
• Technological fascination 3litres/100km average fuel consumption and 6 min 57 sec on the North Loop

My thanks go to all those who supported this project.

2014 was a very special year for us. In addition to »Epic - Roads of Iceland«, the new edition to Curves 2 Schweiz with a Lamborghini Miura and Porsche 906 and Curves Österreich, we had the honour of developing a book for the Porsche 918 Spyder. The result was that in 2014 could find us on racing circuits, snow-covered mountain passes, lonely country roads and in our beloved Alps. (Available in stores as of 15 January - limited edition)

  • The Porsche 918 Spyder is an incredible car. It is proof that the progress made by cars in the 21st century is extremely likely. It is electrifying and with its hybrid technology is now crossing new unknown territory. If you take a closer look, you will discover all those people followed their vision and made the impossible a reality. Each of those brilliant developers and engineers from Weissach and Zuffenhausen, but also the select few to the 918 Spyder is dedicated – those who will own one. They must all be crazy – but in the best possible sense, with an unrestrained zest for life.

Story Book (in German and English, 64 pages), Fact Book (in German and English, 64 pages), Illustrated Book (in German and English, 216 pages)
