Since it was built in the 1920s, the Nürburgring North Loop has been a formidable racing circuit full of surprises. Experts spoke of it as being the “longest and most difficult circuit in the world“. And “difficult” in this context means „life threatening“. Niki Lauda‘s terrible accident in 1976 put an end to the North Loop being used for Formula One races. The legendary track has nevertheless lost non-of its fascination. Every weekend, private drivers delight in completing their laps and enjoying the thrill of the “Green Hell “. Motorsport maniac Stefan Bogner has now rediscovered the North Loop and photographically immortalised. Despite their documentary nature, the aesthetically pleasing photos are of full of emotion and exciting details of the kind we have learned to expect from Bogner’s illustrated books, such as ”Curves“ and ”Escapes“– plus detailed information on the individual sections of the track, elevation profiles, the best places to overtake and the right moments to apply the brakes. Thomas Jäger, himself a successful racing driver and instructor at the AMG Driving Academy, shares his expertise with the readers of ”Tracks“and provides valuable tips for the decisive tenths of a second.

“Tracks – Nurburgring North Loop“ is a detailed documentation of one of the great myths in the history of motorsports, full of useful information and entertaining fax surrounding legendary racing circuit:

  • Gasping for breath, irregular heartbeat – arriving just before sunset for the Dunlop intensive training course at the Nürburgring, we meet the legend in the paddock: the Porsche 956/007, with which Stefan Bellof on 28 May 1983 12 set the fastest official lap to date on the classic North Loop. The car is owned by a collector who had had travelled to the Nürburgring for the event and of course there is only one thing we want now: should return to the legendary track for our camera.

  • Dunlop had called in Hans-Joachim »Striezel« Stuck as the driver and at 8 o’clock the following morning the 956 rolls out of the pit box. The weather is typical for the Eiffel, with thick mist covering the first curves. Three bends later, the sun breaks through and at 8:30 we’re back in the box again...

  • It is precisely on days like these that everything comes together on the Karma Highway: the Porsche is the centrepiece of our new book »Tracks, Nurburgring North Loop « and "Striezel" Stuck has written the introduction. With over 200 photos of the circuit and detailed information on individual sections of the track, elevation profiles, places to overtake and the right moments to apply the brakes, "Tracks, Nurburgring North Loop" is a manual and compendium all in one
