Gasping for breath, irregular heartbeat – arriving just before sunset for the Dunlop intensive training course at the Nürburgring, we meet the legend in the paddock: the Porsche 956/007, with which Stefan Bellof on 28 May 1983 12 set the fastest official lap to date on the classic North Loop. The car is owned by a collector who had had travelled to the Nürburgring for the event and of course there is only one thing we want now: should return to the legendary track for our camera.
Dunlop had called in Hans-Joachim »Striezel« Stuck as the driver and at 8 o’clock the following morning the 956 rolls out of the pit box.
