I received the book "The Road in the Forgotten Landscape" at Christmas 2008 as a present from my wife - as travel literature and special inspiration. Having driven the Susten Pass only a few days ago "for at least the 10th time"... and having flown over it, it is high time to recommend this book to every passionate driver of alpine passes. The road is described in every detail, down to the design of the kilometre stones.

Very interesting too:

Starting the day on the north face of the Eiger is an impressive experience ... and one steeped in history. The record for ascending the Eiger's north face, for "running/speed-climbing" is 2h 28, solo without securing. ...It is worth noting that mountaineers in 1930 needed 6 days. Many lost their lives in the attempt. The route continued in a northerly direction to Lake Sägistal and then the Grosse Scheidegg, afterwards to the Sustenpass and back via Lake Engstein. Wonderful trails and landscapes for silent motion - there is hardly anything more beautiful. So it is good to swap your motorbike or car for hiking shoes, a mountain bike or an e-bike once in a while. "In tranquility lies strength". I would like to take this opportunity to thank Intercycle, Peter, Mario and Fritz ... we will see the result at Eurobike in Friedrichshafen.
